Film fanatics: listen up! WA has an amazing calendar of film festivals on offer this year. From international blockbusters to indie shorts, there's a phenomenal variety of films to see in unique venues across the state. We've selected five film festivals that are showing this year for you to add to your diary BREC Summer Film Festival Jan 12 – Feb 10, Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre Get yourself down south to see the international selection of films on offer at BREC’s Summer Film Festival. Featuring the award-winning Aussie comedy Ali’s Wedding (CinefestOZ Prize 2017), French-Belgian comedy Just to be Sure and the stunning documentary Mountain, to name just a few. You’ll be taken on a visual journey around the globe with the diverse choice of films on offer! CinefestOZ Aug 22 - 26, Various Venues, South West CinefestOZ is one of WA’s most anticipated film festivals of the year. It’s as much about celebrating the Australian film industry as it is about honouring Australian culture. The festival focuses on Australian and French feature films and holds a variety of events across much-loved local venues in the South West including cinemas, wineries, breweries and galleries. Don’t miss IndigifestOZ Day, which showcases a fantastic line-up of Indigenous films and events. Cottesloe Film Festival Jan 27, 28, Feb 2, 3, 9, 10, Cottesloe Civic Centre Cottesloe Film Festival may be small but it is mighty! With live music, food vendors, bar service and a range of shorts and feature films, there’s plenty going on for everyone to enjoy. Their program features both Australian and international films, including a documentary which celebrates the life of Heath Ledger, showing on opening night. Don’t forget to BYO chairs and picnic rugs! Part proceeds go to the Cottesloe Coastcare Association. Revelation Perth International Film Festival July 5 - 18, various venues across Perth With a focus on documentaries, independent and experimental films, Revelation is resoundingly popular with both local and international film buffs. The event features 120 films from all around the world, in addition to a number of industry talks, live performances, workshops and exhibitions. Next Gen Short Film Festival Feb 8 & 11, The Backlot Check out the best of WA’s emerging film makers at this fantastic Fringe World event. Featuring a special award-ceremony and two screening nights at The Backlot, the festival is a unique way to celebrate local talent in an intimate boutique setting.
