It’s a good year to be an action fan.
2020 is serving up a smorgasbord of big blockbusters to get your heart pounding. From heavily anticipated originals to long-awaited sequels, here are five of the most exciting action flicks coming to cinemas this year.
Bond 25: No Time to Die
Release date: April 8th
The time has finally come for Daniel Craig to hang up the bow tie, park the Aston Martin and drink his last martini - but not before one last adventure as MI6’s top superspy.
We don’t know much about Bond’s newest adventure, but we do know that Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek will play the main villain, and Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch will be introduced as a new double-0 agent.
Whether Bond 25 soars like Skyfall or falls short like Quantum of Solace, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, Craig’s last outing with his license to kill is bound to be eventful.

Wonder Woman 1984
Release Date: June 5th
After earning great reception from fans and rave reviews from critics, it’s no surprise that we’re getting a sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman.
Just like the first film, Wonder Woman 1984 will be a blast from the past. Gal Gadot returns as the Amazonian ass-kicker, this time against the backdrop of the cold war. Acclaimed director Patty Jenkins is back to direct, along with love interest Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal will also be introduced as the new villains to face off against the beloved superhero.
If you want a sneak peek at Wonder Woman punching bad guys, flipping trucks, and swinging from actual lightning bolts, take a look at the trailer.
Black Widow
Release Date: April 30th
Marvel isn’t playing around when it comes to kicking off phase 4 of their cinematic universe. The first movie in almost a year from the record-shattering franchise will follow Avenger/spy/all-round badass Black Widow as she is forced to confront her dark past.
After playing the world’s deadliest femme fatale for a decade, Scarlett Johansson is finally front and centre. Joining her are Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz.

Tenet
Release Date: July 17th
Christopher Nolan is one of the most prolific directors working today, with films like Inception, Dunkirk, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight Trilogy making him a household name. With so many outstanding original films under his belt, Nolan’s eleventh feature is sure to be a must-see.
While the plot of Tenet is still shrouded in mystery, we do have a few hints at what’s in store for us. Imagery seems to hint at the film being an espionage thriller, which is hardly surprising given Nolan’s well-documented love of the genre. Fans have speculated that time-travel will be a major element, which melds well with Nolan’s consist use of non-linear storytelling. At this point, all we know for sure is that the film stars BlackKkKlansman’s John David Washington, along with Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki.

Top Gun: Maverick
Release Date: June 26th
This June, fly back into the danger zone with Tom Cruise as Top Gun returns to the big screen.
It’s been 34 years since Top Gun cemented itself as one of the most iconic films of the 80’s and turned Cruise into one of the biggest action stars on the planet. Now the franchise is back, in a sequel following Cruise’s ace pilot ‘Maverick’ as he trains Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s former co-pilot ‘Goose’. With Val Kilmer returning as ‘Iceman’, Harold Faltermeyer composing the score once again, and Kenny Loggins even recording a new version of ‘Danger Zone’, Top Gun: Maverick is shaping up to be a nostalgia-fueled joy-ride.
