Celebrating music, live performance and the end of a challenging year, WAAPA and ECU present the WAAPA Music Feast, a day-long program of free performances at the Mt Lawley campus, with music for the whole family.
Running from 11am - 7pm on Saturday December 5, this free celebration will transform the WAAPA campus into a bustling cultural hub, with four venues each hosting a different style of music.
The Richard Gill Auditorium will host the classical department with performances featuring the best of Classical Voice and Opera, as well as various instrumental ensembles, including the popular and energetic Defying Gravity percussion ensemble.
The jazz department takes up residence at The Edith Spiegeltent, jamming around the world for an 8 hour celebration of jazz's many iterations. Enjoy hits such as Charles Mingus’ Gun Slingin’ Bird, Yellowjackets’ Downtown and Taylor Swift’s You Need to Calm Down, among many others, performed by small and large student ensembles, including the acclaimed WAAPA Big Band.
Performing outdoors on the Amphitheatre stage are students from the Contemporary Music cohort, including those from the Music Artist program, who are gifted singer/songwriters from the genres of rock, pop, folk, indie, soul, hip-hop and R&B. Check out soloists and bands performing covers of your favourite songs, as well as their own original music.
Close by in the Spectrum Gallery Space, the Composition and Music Technology students, staff and alumni will present an eclectic mix of original music performance, spatial sound and video. It's a great opportunity to get an insight into what's up and coming in the music world, and experience what the creative musical minds of WAAPA have to offer.
Take the family out to enjoy a day of free live music, from 11am to 7pm, with performances happening all day from the combined talent of WAAPA students, staff and alumni.
