Since it premiered in 2016, WA theatre company Barking Gecko have brought their show Bambert’s Book of Lost Stories across the country and the globe, winning a Helpmann Award in the process. Now, they are bringing it home to Perth once more, for a limited season the whole family can enjoy at the Octagon Theatre from Oct 31. Bambert’s Book of Lost Stories explores the connections we make with others and the rest of the world through stories and ultimately, the power of kindness. It seems especially apt given the current global situation and the basic human need for connection. The play tells the story of Bambert, an impossibly small man with a love for writing, whose only companions are the characters he creates for his stories. One day, he decides to set those stories free and send them out into the world aboard tiny hot air balloons, in the hope they will find a home. Each of his stories ask the eventual finder to return them to Bambert, postmarked with a stamp from where they landed, so he knows where the stories should be set. But as time goes on, the stories are yet to return and Bambert’s hope begins to dwindle. Will the stories ever find a home or return to him? Perfect for children aged 8+ as well as lovers of stories, the play has been adapted for the stage by Dan Giovannoni & Luke Kerridge from the German ‘Bamberts Buch der verschollenen Geschichten’ by Reinhard Jung. The show is running for five performances: Oct 31 at 6:30pm, Nov 7 & 14 at 1pm & 6:30pm and Nov 20 at 6:30pm. Tickets can be purchased here, and for more information, see Barking Gecko’s website.
