More than 60 wineries, breweries and distilleries and 12 of Perth’s favourite eateries were featured at this year’s BeauVine Festival, ensuring all taste buds were satisfied for visitors to the three-day event in Birdwood Square, Mt Lawley.
With people queuing down the block and around the corner to get in, food and wine lovers streamed through the gates on Saturday night to get their hands on that free tasting glass and commence five glorious hours of wine, beer, cider and gin tastings. Set in the magical surrounds of Birdwood Square, decorated in lights and with a ferris wheel to boot, the atmosphere of BeauVine was one of festival fun. Highlights among the winery stallholders were Flowstone (Margaret River), Swings & Roundabouts (Yallingup) and old faithful Cullen Wines (Margaret River). The plethora of beers on tap provided a nice respite from the wine offerings, with special mention to Fixation Brewing Co.’s IPA, which could not have gone down better on a humid spring night. This year also saw the addition of Australia’s newest online retailer of premium Japanese sake, Supersake, based in Mosman Park, Perth. Also high on the list of things perfect for the warmer months is the ‘Hard Lemonade’ from the all-girl brewing team at Sparkke, with sales from these divine brews going towards campaigns for gender equality (among other social causes that the team is passionate about). Overall, the weekend was a huge success – perfect Perth weather, local acoustic musicians who kept us dancing at the Gage Roads Acoustic Stage and DJ NDORSE sharing some 90’s RnB and funk vibes combining to make this a spring night nobody will forget for a while. BeauVine Festival will be back in 2018 showcasing yet another year of WA’s ever-improving local food, wine, beer and music scene.
