February 12 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Ox in the Chinese Lunar calendar, and the City of Perth has announced a range of activations throughout the city to celebrate.
Combining traditional cultural celebrations with contemporary activations, the Perth CBD will play host to the annual celebration for two weeks, until February 25.
A giant and colourful Chinese lantern wall will pop up in Northbridge Piazza from Feb 12, designed as an aesthetic instagram backdrop, whilst nearby, people visiting Northbridge will be met with the sight of more than 300 red lanterns strung along James and William Street.
On Sunday 14 February from 12pm to 9pm, the whole family is welcome at the Perth Chinese New Year Fair, a free community carnival taking place in the Perth Cultural Centre. Delivered by Perth's Chung Wah Association, the festival includes lion and dragon dancing, a parade, multicultural concert, games, rides and stalls.
