It would seem that the AWESOME Festival 2017 can do no wrong when it comes to picking exciting, engaging theatre that will appeal to audiences young and old.
Kaleidoscope is another hit theatre show that ran at the renowned children’s arts festival this month. It’s a sensory experience full of colour and light mingled with a magnificent display of acrobatics and circus tricks. The show focuses around Ethan, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at the age of four. Through the colours and visual magic of Kaleidoscope, he lets the audience in on what life for him is really like. Ethan briefly described his condition to the audience, with the whole show based around how he sees the world and lives day to day. The performers start the show by wearing white clothing, then halfway through, everyone but Ethan switches to black. By the end of the show, they have all morphed into colour, spreading their own visual kind of joy around the stage and out into the audience. The performers show true strength and control in their acrobatic and circus skills, with each move more breathtaking than the last. Their energy is ongoing and infectious; you can’t help but get drawn into the story. Overall, Kaleidoscope gives a sense of working together to achieve greater things, supporting each other, and finding joy and beauty in the little things in life. It’s a performance that offers entertainment for adults and kids alike. Kaleidoscope by Company 2 ran as part of the AWESOME Festival 2017.
