A three-month program of winter events has launched in Bunbury, with experiences and activations poised to encourage the community to get around the cold months.
Mookaroo-k Goomburrup – Bunbury Winter Events runs through June to August, featuring more than 40 events across Bunbury’s City Centre. A curated mix of community-led and City-supported events make up the program, including live music, food experiences, cultural events, creative installations, markets and more.
Mookaroo-k is the Noongar word for the coldest season, and Goomburrup is the Wardandi Noongar name for the Bunbury area – together, Mookaroo-k Goomburrup honours the spirit of coming together on Wardandi Noongar Boodja during winter, a time marked by longer nights and gathering together.

Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the program was about giving the community and visitors more reasons to enjoy the city in winter, saying that “Winter in Bunbury is something to be embraced not endured.”
“From live music in our City Centre venues to food experiences on Victoria Street, markets in Queens Gardens to cultural exhibitions at BRAG and the Museum, there is something for everyone across the three months.”
The program kicked off with the Bunbury Big Weekender – three days across June 5 to 7 that were jampacked with activities, including the AFL Game at Hands Oval which saw the Fremantle Dockers achieve their biggest-ever winning margin against the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Highlights to come include Always Good Nights, intimate live music pop-ups showcasing WA’s best songwriters, NAIDOC Week 50th Anniversary celebrations, Winter Warmers at Bunbury Museum & Heritage Centre, plus live music, trivia, winter film festivals and more across Bunbury.
