Artitja Fine Art Gallery is embracing 2021 with their vibrant annual art exhibition, Summer Salon, running from Jan 9 through to Jan 31. The South Fremantle gallery specialises in Australian Aboriginal art from remote and regional desert communities, and visitors can find unique works of Indigenous art on display at the Earlywork gallery space on South Terrace. This year’s exhibition, curated in a ‘salon’ style where paintings hang together tightly with sculptures dispersed throughout the gallery, showcases original Indigenous art from 20 art centres and remote communities across Australia.

With COVID-19 ravaging the Australian art scene in 2020, this exhibition emphasises the gallery motto of “making cultural connections” and invites visitors to marvel at these vivid masterpieces with free entry to the public during gallery opening hours. For many remote community artists, exhibiting and selling their artworks is their main source of income. “To stand in front of a work of art that moves you, to see and ‘feel’ the depth, texture and get the true worth of colour is unbeatable.”
