Historical Informed Performance Company (HIP) showcases an Early Music performance, telling the story of the crossing of two cultures in Fremantle’s heritage-listed Naval Store. Eclectic European Baroque scores will be played alongside music traditionally belonging to the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people as a part of the Fremantle Biennale.
Meeting Place explores the junction between civilisations and expresses ideas of voyages, foreign lands, isolation and connection. The HIP Company will take audiences back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries, performing period-accurate songs, opera arias and instrumental chamber music. Award-winning Noongar singer Lilly Gogos and renowned pianist James Huntingford join as guest artists to merge history with modern innovation.
Two songs about the Noongar man Miago, who was on board the HMS Beagle from 1837-38, have been recreated and composed by Clint Bracknell for the event, navigating themes of crossing and expedition.
Experience Meeting Place at the Fremantle Naval Store on Friday, November 19 at 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
