Bringing the music of Hollywood to life, from 2001: A Space Odyssey to Aussie favourite Paper Planes, the WA Symphony Orchestra proudly presents Cinematic, showing on August 26th and 27th. Live from the red carpet of Perth Concert Hall, this is an unmissable event that encourages the audience to enjoy the soundtracks to their favourite movie moments at the hands of talented guest artists.
The piece de resistance of the show centres around Stanley Kubrick's legendary film 2001: A Space Odyssey and the incredible opening track, Richard Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra. Conducted by Benjamin Northey and with a violin concerto by Latvian maestro Baiba Skride, this is a musical experience that is one-of-a-kind.

WASO Sounds and Stories speak on Kubrick using Strauss' score: 'stanley Kubrick changed cinema forever with the release of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The iconic opening, a cosmic sunrise soundtracked by the booming timpani of Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra set the scene for one of the most influential films ever made."
Also showcased in Cinematic is music from The Prince and the Pauper, and home-grown Australian hit film Paper Planes. You may even recognise Korngold's violin concerto from the newest season of Netflix's Stranger Things.
