A long-term collaboration between artists of Taipei and Perth, Steamworks Arts brings an exhilarating performance series to PICA from 12 - 16 November. Exploring the urban spaces of the current sister cities, Gui Shu (Belong) is the result of a four-year exchange between a group of renowned independent artists. Each performance fuses dance, music, sound and video projections. A long-term presentation of the artists’ work will appear in the PICA Reading Room from 22 October to 22 December 2019 - displaying footage of the project’s development. Contributors include Sally Richardson of Steamworks Arts, composers Yenting Hsu and Tristen Parr, choreographer/performers Hsiao-Tzu Tien, Yiching Liao, Laura Boynes and Yilin Kong, and vision designers Ashley de Prazer and Pilar Mata Dupont. “This creative process of exchange and collaboration has been a journey that I could never have anticipated when it first began,” Richardson said. "Gui Shu (Belong) represents over four years of committed creative development and the realisation of meaningful artistic relationships. Gui Shu (Belong) is a blueprint for future work creation; an example of how an arts project can build ties between cultures and places." PICA Producer Tim Carter said, “PICA is thrilled to work with Sally again to build upon a long-standing engagement that has seen her practice shift and grow across theatre and performance and now with Gui Shu (Belong) sits at an exciting nexus of live, visual and sonic artforms. This ambitious project has evolved from deep relationship building and we are fortunate to now open this story and experience to audiences.” A preview of the production will be held on Tuesday 12 November.
