With a line-up featuring some of the biggest names in Comedy including Arj Barker, Daniel Sloss and Adam Kay, the 2020 Perth Comedy Festival will present the united nations of comedians. The full program has now been announced, with more than 65 comedians hailing from 10 different countries set to perform on the Perth stage between April 20 – May 17. Alongside international stars, there will be plenty of homegrown talent such as Nazeem Hussain, Fiona O’Loughlin, Marty Sheargold, Gen Fricker and everyone’s favourite naughty puppet Agro. Here are a few new additions to the Perth Comedy Festival line-up in 2020.

Larry Dean

One of Scotland’s finest stand-up comics, Larry Dean has been collecting awards like his life depended on it, including Scottish Comedian of the Year (2013) and Amused Moose Comedy Award – Edinburgh Festival (2016) to name a few. His new show ‘Fudnut’, will be a deeply personal hour-long story with big laughs peppered throughout.

Angelo Tsarouchas

A Canadian Greek arrives in Perth… This isn’t the beginning of a bad joke, it’s Angelo Tsarouchas’s new show! In ‘Mythology’ he lovingly pokes fun at this own Greek heritage while also talking about society, family, marriage and his father. Just the thing if you’re in the mood for some Mediterranean merriment!

Jordan Brookes

Having won the 2019 Edinburgh Comedy Award and the Chortle Comedian’s Comedian Award 2018, Jordan Brookes (UK), will be making his maiden voyage to our shores. He’ll be performing his new show I’ve Got Nothing at the Astor Lounge.

Dusty Rich

Witty and irreverent, South Africa’s Dusty Rich will strike your funny bone so hard that you won’t know what hit you. With his improv style, he plays with the audience and has a knack for knowing exactly how to leave them breathless with laughter. Seeing his show ‘Bad Idea’, is anything but! Nikki Osbourne

You’ve seen her all over TV, but now you can see her perform live comedy before your eyes. Australia’s own Nikki Osbourne dives right into her first Perth Comedy Festival with a spicy and controversial show for her debut. In ‘On The Spectrum’, Nikki gives some insight on what it’s like living with someone who has autism. Full of heart-warming stories and hilarious punchlines, it’s a must-see.

Daniel Townes

For a drier, more refined flavour, look no further than Daniel Townes. Full of razor-sharp one-liners and a laconic, deadpan stage presence, he is coming back to Perth after being a stand-out at last year’s festival. His new show ‘Little Ray Of Sunshine delves into some of life’s big questions on expectations, work, relationships and mortality.

Jacques Barrett

The most French-sounding Australian makes a return to Perth for the festival. Unwavering and ever-adaptable, Jacques can tackle the darkest subject matter and make you see it’s funny side. Catch Jacques Barrett in ‘I Just Turned 40 So Obviously Here’s A Show About World War 2’ at the State Theatre Centre of WA – Studio Underground

Returning Favourites

If you’ve been to Perth Comedy Festivals in the past, there are plenty of old favourites that you can see again. In 2020, some of our favourite Aussie comics including Effie with ’Love Me Tinder’, Alex Williamson with ‘Oi Mate!’, Alice Fraser with ‘Chronos’, Matt Okine with ‘Solo Diner’, Nazeem Hussain with ‘Hussain That?’ and Cal Wilson with ‘Open Book’. Local Perth Talent

In addition to all the imports, there’s an abundance of locally-grown Perth talent. Locals Jez Watts (creator of the Nasty Show, Australia), Matt Storer (2014 RAW comedy national finalist), Nicola Macri (Perth fringe festival favourite), and Rory Lowe (known for his hilarious dubs of TV shows on facebook), show us that Perth has just as much comedy talent to offer as everywhere else.

Lineups

And finally, if you prefer a sampling platter, there are opportunities to see multiple comedians in one night. The Perth Comedy Festival presents three Galas at The Regal Theatre (22 April, 29 April and 6 May), three festival showcases in Fremantle at Rock Rover (23 April, 30 April and 7 May) as well as The Biggest Comedy Show on Earth – which is basically speed dating with comedians – Thursday through Sunday throughout the festival.
