An original and eclectic showcase of WAAPA’s graduating performance makers is soon to arrive at The Blue Room Theatre. Using experimental stagecraft, performers are bound to provoke and entertain audiences with deft techniques and unbridled creativity over the course of two weeks in September. TILT, performed in two programs from 11–14 and 18–21 September, is a highly-anticipated annual event that introduces Perth audiences to the next generation of passionate, creative performance makers.
A constellation of finely crafted performance segments, the best TILT pieces have gone on to play their own seasons at The Blue Room Theatre or feature in fringe festivals around the country.
The hit of the 2017 TILT season, The View from the Penthouse, returned to the Blue Room with a longer running time and a shortened title, The Penthouse, in 2018. Zachary Sheridan, whose piece Cookies and Cream was the star of last year’s TILT season, took his show to the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
This year’s TILT promises more of the same: sharply crafted storytelling, inventiveness in spades, and wonderful theatrical moments. This is theatre at its most eclectic, offering a range of bold physical theatre pieces. One involves a poetry performance, the other a sensory theatre experience in which to contemplate climate change – plus eight more original gems.
From solo performances to complex pieces for up to ten performers with choreography and music, WAAPA’s 3rd Year Performance Making students have devised a series of clever, original theatre pieces that showcase their skills and creativity – and make for two brilliant programs of theatre.
