Playing with Fire – April 23
Fire is a force of nature essential to our lives. At its most basic level, it keeps us warm and fed, but during this hot and dry Australian summer we have seen it at its most extreme; wiping out kilometres of bushland, animals and lives. The unbridled power of this phenomenon has inspired artists and composers around the world for centuries.
In this one hour concert, conductor and presenter extraordinaire Guy Noble takes us on a journey that expresses through music fire’s unique ability to consume, create and illuminate a night sky in dazzling technicolour bursts.
Fantastic symphonies – August 13
Secrets, lies, love and obsession: for centuries, the symphony has been the ultimate canvas for composers to express their innermost thoughts and feelings at scale.
Join presenter Paul Rissmann as he explores the motivation behind four landmark works, in a playlist that ranges from classical beauty to unadulterated horror. Led by conductor Benjamin Northey, WASO will perform symphonies from Haydn, Berlioz, Mahler and Shostakovich.
The Great Outdoors - October 15
The gentle breeze of spring, the cracked red earth of the Aussie outback, the savagery of a winter storm, waves crashing on a rugged coastline – you’ll feel like you’re in the great outdoors at this concert!
Let conductor Christopher Dragon lead you on a journey of vivid imagery and immense power, in a performance celebrating extraordinary landscapes and mother nature’s glory and fury. The program features works by Max Richter, Sculthorpe, Beethoven and Mendelssohn.
