WASO performs Beethoven’s most popular symphony plus blazing horns in Miracles and Triumphs on November 26 and 27 at the Perth Concert Hall.
The concert opens with Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 96, The Miracle. The first symphony written by Haydn in London, the repertoire was last performed by WASO in 1992.
Next is Robert Schumann’s Konzertstuck for Four Horns and Orchestra. Composed in 1849 during what is said to be the most blazingly creative and happy years of Schumann’s life, Konzertstuck is infused with a sense of joy and euphoria. Central to the work is the French Horn, considered to be the most difficult instrument to play. Due to the difficulty of the work it was originally considered best listened to via recording, however, orchestra horn sections around the world are now jumping at the opportunity to perform it. The horn’s evocative qualities are multiplied by four in this work by exposing WASO’s horn players as soloists.
The concert’s final piece, Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 is instantly recognisable by its first four notes. Considered one of the most famous symphonies, audiences will be taken on a journey from tension to exuberant triumph.
The concert will be conducted by Johannes Fritzsch, Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
