The Swan Valley’s top winemakers were awarded last Friday night at the 33rd annual Swan Valley Wine Show hosted at Sandalford Wines. Local winemakers, Swan Valley business owners and community members gathered for the presentation of awards.
One of Australia’s longest continually operating wine shows, the event provides an opportunity for winemakers to benchmark their wines against that of other winemakers throughout the region. A total of 244 wines were entered into this year’s show.
It was a successful show for Sitella who was awarded trophies for the Best Varietal White or Blend with their 2015 Museum Silk, Best Non GPZ Wine (red or white) with their 2018 Margaret River Reserve Cabernet Malbec, and Best Red Wine Blend (less than 75% Shiraz, GPZ only) with their 2019 Tinta Rouge. Sittella also won Best Swan Valley Table Wine of Show for their 2021 Avant Garde Golden Mile Grenache. The wine also took out the award for Best Single Red Varietal (other than Shiraz, GPZ only). Finally, the winery won Most Successful Producer of the show with the highest accumulated points overall.
This year’s show saw the introduction of a new trophy, the Liquor Barons Best Regional Wine of Show which was awarded to Torrent Wines for their 2015 Swan Valley Chenin Blanc. This wine also won Best Chenin Blanc (GPZ only).
Oakover Wines won the City of Swan Trophy which goes to the exhibitor whose five or more entries gain the highest overall average score. Oakover also won the Best 2021 Dry White Wine of Show (GPZ only) for their 2021 Chenin Blanc.
