The Perth Hills provide everything you want from a country escape: scenic, winding drives, friendly owner-operator service, hearty local produce, hundreds of walking trails, intimate B&Bs and pristine national parks. The way to do the Perth Hills is simple: book your B&B for Friday and Saturday nights, pack an overnight bag, drive out after work, have an early dinner at one of the historic pubs or restaurants, and get yourself a good night's sleep for the following day of walking, cycling, picnicking, winery hopping, wildlife-watching, art-viewing or whatever it is you like to do. Get yourself a bottle of wine and some local produce and dine in the comfort of your boutique accommodation. Next day, visit a day spa - you deserve it - drop into a cafe or winery for lunch, then begin the brief 30-minute trek home. Bliss.

Getting There

If you are travelling by car from the Perth CBD, take the Great Eastern Highway to Mundaring, and Roe Highway to Kalamunda and Bickley. The Southwest Highway is best for Serpentine and Jarrahdale. If taking public transport, the train lines from the Perth CBD run directly to Armadale. Visitors travelling from Perth can also catch the train to Midland and then the bus to Mundaring, or the bus directly from Perth to Kalamunda.
