Six spots to make the most of was wildflower season

It's no secret that WA has some splendid wildflowers, and there are many hidden gem locations to explore. These spots bring the blooms to you, with easy drives less than an hour from Perth.

Wireless Hill Park

Ardross A hidden gem that helps you to step out of city living, Wireless Hill Park is just off Canning Highway in Ardross. A great spot to overlook the Swan River and see Australian native wildflowers, such as kangaroo paw, there are plenty of shaded areas, barbecue pits and a playground that makes it perfect for outdoor family fun. The rich wildflowers around the area also make it great for bushwalking (keep a look out for cat paws, spider orchids and donkey orchids).

Bungendore Park

Bedfordale Outside the metro area, about 40 kilometres away from Perth CBD, Bungedore Park is home to many rare species of flora and fauna. This park is a popular spot for bushwalking and their wildflowers bloom in spring, close to the ground. You can choose one of four marked bush tracks to see the wildflowers bloom - and keep an eye out for the resident parrots and cockatoos that love to play amongst the greenery.

Star Swamp Reserve

North Beach Located in the City of Stirling, Star Swamp is just over 20 minutes’ drive from Perth. Park at Groat Street to enter the park that is lined with paperbark, jarrah and banksia trees. The swamp has flowering plants all year round, but their main flowering season is August to October, so make sure you get out and about to enjoy the spring sunshine. The area is taken care of by volunteers and on every 4^th Saturday of the month, they run Nature Walk Trails that showcase the flora and fauna of Star Swamp.

Kings Park

Perth It would be remiss of us to leave out this beautiful spot that's right in Perth's backyard. Home to both native wildflowers and a botanical garden filled with rare and unique blossoms, Kings Park is perfect for a family day trip. With transport made simple by ample parking on-site and Transperth routes that service the park regularly, Kings Park is an easy day trip that lets you take in incredible floral displays with time for a picnic too. Keep an eye out for the iconic pink everlastings, kangaroo paw, and even a giant baobab tree.
