If you are looking to regain some of your old strength and flexibility, but don’t want to go to a huge gym class, you need to make your way down to the new Pilates classes held at the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club on the Esplanade in Dalkeith. We tried it and it’s awesome. The classes are run by Sandra Oates, founder of The Movement State Pilates, who runs all the classes herself and is passionate about strength and ease of movement. Sandra is a qualified Pilates instructor who experienced years of debilitating back pain and difficult years of surgery and medical treatment, until she chanced upon clinical Pilates, which changed her life completely. With her life transformed and pain-free, Sandra became a devotee with a passion for helping others restore balance, alignment, and a range of movement many haven’t experienced since their youth. The Yacht Club provides the space allowing Sandra to keep the classes small. Most of the clients are aged 40+ and the classes cater to all fitness levels. The classes move slowly to allow everyone time to master each movement at their own pace and the smaller classes give Sandra the chance to provide personalized instruction as required. It’s comforting and unintimidating, as it should be. The location must be the most idyllic in all of Perth. Surrounded by trees and with uninterrupted river-views and easy parking, it’s the perfect place to find some calm in your day and afterwards, enjoy a gentle walk and a coffee. Classes currently run on Tuesday and Friday, starting at 8.30am, but will likely expand as the classes grow. For class options and bookings, go to https://themovementstate.com.au/
