Good news for those of us who have been on the hunt for a new brunch spot! The team behind CBD coffee spot Little SoHo are opening a second venue, SoHo Lane, in Mount Lawley.
Since opening last year, Little SoHo has attracted a loyal fan base. The hole-in-the-wall café is a bustling meeting spot for city workers on St Georges Terrace’s west end. After a year in business, owners Matt Miller and Trindy Adler have announced the expansion.
SoHo Lane occupies the space neighbouring Fresh Provisions in the newly redeveloped Alexander Buildings on the corner of Beaufort and Walcott street.
Matt said that the decision came from the lack of a neighbourhood cafe on that side of Beaufort Street.
“We felt like it was the right time for the community to have somewhere comfortable to enjoy a good meal.”
Matt and Trindy spend 12 years living in New York, and you can see the city's influence in their cafe. Tiffany Keal Creative Studio created the design concept for SoHo Lane, opting for an upbeat, welcoming vibe with a colour palette inspired by New York’s streetscapes. The high ceilings and open design blur the distinctions between inside and out.
SoHo Lane’s all-day brunch menu is about simple food done well - with a twist! Adventurous diners can sink their teeth into creations such as Japanese pancake served with rosewater meringue, burnt marshmallow, yuzu curd, pistachio graham cracker crumb, berries, mandarin and dehydrated kiwi.
New York style dishes will punctuate the menu with classics like Pickle brined fried chicken and Mac ‘n’ cheese. Chef Benjamin Ronaldson (Mary Street Bakery, Hylin, Greenhouse) is given free rein to play and invent his own standouts.
“We’re serving bright and colourful food. Simple dishes cooked perfectly with unexpected ingredients as the star,” says Trindy.
“Our focus will always be on sustainable food and supporting local providers.”
Little SoHo take coffee seriously and their new venue will be no different. The café will be taking it up a notch, serving a Micrology Coffee Roasters x SoHo Lane unique blend and brewing it in a La Marzocco Linea PB 3-group AV with texturised milk using a Ubermilk (milk machine).
SoHo Lane isn’t the only sign of a remerging Mount Lawley. Along with businesses moving into the new-look Alexander Buildings’ laneway, The Flying Scotsman re-opens in 2021 and is set to bring new life to that side of Beaufort Street.
Opening hours: Mon - Sun 7.00am – 3.00pm
