The six winners of the 25th Perth Hills Wine Show were announced on Friday night, with Plume Estate being awarded Wine of Show for their 2023 Reserve Shiraz. Shiraz is a key varietal for the Perth Hills, with local grapes being used to make the best Shiraz in Australia at the James Halliday awards in 2023.
The 2024 Perth Hills Wine Show celebrated its 25th anniversary in grand fashion, honouring over 100 wines from the region’s top producers at an awards evening on Friday. Each year, this event showcases the unique flavours and talent of the Perth Hills Wine Region. Located just a 30-minute drive from Perth, this region makes for the perfect escape to enjoy spectacular scenery, whilst treating yourself to a variety of locally produced boutique wines.
Renowned judges Tony Davis, Ray Jordan, and Garth Cliff had the tough task of evaluating wines across eight classes, representing the very best in Perth Hills winemaking. Representative of the quality of entries in this year’s show, over 70 wines received bronze, silver or gold medals and six wineries took home well-deserved trophies.
Perth Hills Wine Show Winners
Plume Estate had a standout night, taking home the Most Successful Exhibitor award. Their 2023 Reserve Shiraz claimed both Wine of Show and the John Walsh trophy for Best Shiraz.
The Chairman’s Award went to Stringybark Winery for their 2024 Verdelho, a fresh and vibrant white that truly impressed the judges. Myattsfield Vineyard was a double winner, taking home Best White and Best Alternative Variety for their 2024 Vermentino, and also clinching Best Rosé with their 2024 Rosé. Brookside Vineyard captured the attention of sparkling wine lovers, winning Best Sparkling for their 2022 Méthode Champenoise. La Fattoria triumphed in the red wine category, winning Best Red Varietal for their 2023 Montepulciano and Djida Mia earned the trophy for Best Red Blend with their 2023 Les Trois Garçons.
Wine critic Ray Jordan praised the region for its growing professionalism and passion, commenting on how these regional shows serve as vital platforms for introducing new and exciting varietals that push the boundaries of winemaking. The Perth Hills Wine Region has long been a hidden gem, but events like these are putting it firmly on the map.
