Western Australia has stolen the spotlight at the 2024 Perth Royal Wine Awards, with six of the state’s wineries clinching top honors, proving once again that WA is a powerhouse in Australia’s wine industry.

Out of 19 prestigious trophies awarded at the annual event, WA producers took home eight, standing out against fierce competition from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and Tasmania. Driftwood Estate’s Single Site Chardonnay 2023 was the star of the show, winning Best Chardonnay, Best White Wine, and Best Western Australian Wine—a rare and impressive sweep of the top accolades.

Other notable wins for WA include:

– Mandoon Estate’s Reserve Sparkling 2016, awarded Best Sparkling Wine.

– Talisman Wines’ Riesling 2023, winning Best Red or White Varietal.

– West Cape Howe Wines secured Best Sauvignon Blanc for their Mount Barker Sauvignon Blanc 2024

– Torrent Wines won Best Dry White Varietal*for their La Famiglia Chenin Blanc 2019.

– Devil’s Lair took home the Best Cabernet Sauvignon trophy for their Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

The competition, judged by 26 esteemed industry experts over four days, saw over 1,200 entries from across Australia’s top wine regions. WA wines made up a significant 41% of the entries, reinforcing the state’s dominance in premium wine production. Chief Judge Courtney Treacher noted the exceptional quality of this year’s Chardonnay and Shiraz entries, highlighting the “energy, concentration, and balance” of the best wines.

As WA continues to shine, international judges like Corrine Mui have also recognized the potential of WA wines in global markets, especially in Asia. With such strong results, WA is further cementing its reputation on the world wine stage.
