JOONDANNA

Designed for a young couple, this double-storey home is equipped with all the essentials to suit their busy lifestyle. On their wish list was a contemporary facade that was visually impressive without pretension, a functional kitchen and living space, luxurious ensuite for relaxation, and low-maintenance gardens and furnishings.

Since the home is positioned on a 345sqm corner block, Grand View Homes and the designers, Korda Design Group, had to think smart to best utilise the smaller plot size. It was decided the living-room spaces should be maximised, by making a compromise on the outdoor entertaining zone. However, a modest courtyard was worked into the design to provide the client with an option for outdoor dining.

Indoors, timber flooring flows through the downstairs and upstairs living spaces and bedrooms, chosen not only for its homely finish but also for its durability and ease of cleaning.

In the kitchen, white acrylic-texture cabinets are paired with pastel-green splashbacks for a cooling effect, with ample storage space in the walk-in pantry for unsightly appliances. Upstairs, the resort-style master bathroom was constructed to provide a sanctuary for the couple after a long day.

A free-standing porcelain bath, his-and-hers basins, a sleek frameless mirror, and charcoal-grey textured floor-to-ceiling tiles work together to achieve this desired look.

At the front of the home, a large tree was retained to soften the hardscape, while the linear planting of kangaroo paws added an explosion of colour against the grey rendering.
