Harmonious connections between the indoors and outdoors are achieved easily through natural timber furnishings.

INGLEWOOD

This renovated traditional home is about fine detail, from the bronze glazing to the carefully selected colour palette, polished jarrah flooring, and marble benchtops. The limits were pushed to create a fresh and bold aesthetic that is respectful to the original site, while embracing a modern era of design.

As with any project of this nature, Weststyle Design & Development faced unexpected hurdles along the way, peeling back the layers of the old home. It was essential to maintain certain pre-existing trees and greenery around the home, and for a private retreat that was shielded from the street to be created for the client.

With space quite tight, a piece of 2.5x4m glass – used to frame an original tree – had to be craned in and maneuvered into position with specialised machinery. It was an effort that paid dividends, allowing a visual connection to the greenery, and natural light to flow into the living spaces.

A grand yet minimal aesthetic is realised in the open-plan kitchen, using phenomenal materials including the Calacatta Michaelangelo Marble island bench and custom charcoal lacquered cabinetry with pocketing and bi-folding door systems.

The concept behind this integration was to blur the lines between spaces by removing appliances from view. Externally, the home is a hybrid of masonry and framed construction, which allowed the build time to be very efficient. A shallow four-sided pond, adjacent to a floor-to-ceiling window, further establishes links to the environment.

SWANBOURNE

High-void windows and open spaces ensure this two-storey home has abundant natural light and warmth.

Positioned on a corner block, the project was a collaboration between Weststyle Design & Development and Mladen Zujic of Architects Ink, who worked together in order to achieve a stunning outcome.

The interiors are timeless and modern, with warm and inviting finishes that glow
with familiarity as the sun goes down. The attention to detail is impeccable and clear to see, through fine points such as the light fitting and air-conditioning vents being powder-coated to match the window frame's copper hue.

Travertine floors and timber-lined ceilings are standout features in the living room, working alongside the spectacular titanium granite-dressed kitchen with white gloss lacquer cabinetry and copper pendant lights. The adjoining lounge
has outlook to three exterior exit points, with a soaring ceiling created by a double-storey void. The use of louvres throughout maximises the natural ventilation, while adding a 'beach house' feel to the home.

On the external facades, the use of louvres adds to the coastal aesthetic, and at the same time enables the facade to change, depending on the degree of openness.

The elevation's somewhat robust presence is softened by native-inspired landscaping, a stylish lap pool, and the canopy of trees beyond.
