A striking pleated roof is the focal point of an extended period house in North London by architects Bureau de Change.

The roof appears to be formed from a crinkled flat surface, giving the structure a faceted look. It brings a graphic feel to this modern extension and creates "a feeling of motion which emphasises the meeting of old and new," said Katerina Dionysopoulous, Co-Founder of Bureau de Change.

The poise of the roof offers natural points for the placement of generous skylights bringing both light into the space and allowing access to the view of nearby woodland. www.b-de-c.com.
