The good news is all Luna Palace Cinemas are back open from 6pm tonight (Feb 5), for all your cinematic needs. In line with the post-lockdown rules, cinema-goers will need to continue to wear masks when inside the venues, and ensure that seats are left empty to allow for social distancing.

Check out some of the films currently showing at these independent Perth Cinemas

The Nest

A psychological thriller of matrimonial mind games, The Nest explores the strains a transatlantic move puts on a marriage. Rory (Jude Law), an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker, persuades his American wife, Allison (Carrie Coon), and their children to leave the comforts of suburban America and return to his native England during the 1980s. Sensing opportunity, Rory rejoins his former firm and leases a centuries-old country manor, with grounds for Allison’s horses and plans to build a stable.

But soon the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel as the family buckles beneath an unaffordable lifestyle and increasing isolation. As they head towards an inevitable implosion, the couple have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage.

Screening at Luna Leederville and Camelot Outdoor. Tickets available here.

Wild Things: A Year on the Frontline of Environmental Activism

Wild Things spends a year on the frontline with environmental activists hell-bent on saving their futures from the ravages of climate change. Armed only with mobile phones, this growing army of eco-warriors is mobilising against forces more powerful than themselves and saying, enough. From chaining themselves to coal trains, sitting high in the canopy of threatened rainforest or locking onto bulldozers, their non-violent tactics are designed to generate mass action with one finger tap.

Against a backdrop of drought, fire and floods; we witness how today’s environmentalists are making a difference. Surprisingly the methods of old still have currency when a groundswell of school kids inspired by the actions of 16-year old Swedish student Greta Thunberg say, ‘change is coming’ and call a national strike demanding action against global warming.

Screening at Luna Leederville. Tickets available here.

The Food Club

Three life-long girlfriends travel to Italy together to attend a cooking course in Puglia; there they each find the opportunity to redefine themselves and acknowledge that the most important thing in life is their friendship and that it’s never too late to live a more fulfilling life.

Marie recently found herself abandoned on Christmas Eve by her husband and has been falling apart ever since. Berling has been the eternal bachelorette who outwardly denies her age and lives the sweet life, all seems perfect until we find out about her complicated relationship with her daughter. Vanja is still living in the past and has never been able to move on from her late husband.

Screening at Luna Leederville, Luna On SX, Windsor Cinema and Camelot Outdoor, with dialogue in Danish, English & Italian. Tickets available here.

Another Round

Director Thomas Vinterberg and actor Mads Mikkelsen reunite for ANOTHER ROUND, a sobering comedy about ageing, alcoholism, and friendship between men.

In their first collaboration since 2012’s Oscar-nominated The Hunt, Thomas Vinterberg reunites with actor Mads Mikkelsen for ANOTHER ROUND, a film that ranks among each man’s best, most memorable work. Once the brightest teacher at his high school, Martin (Mikkelsen) has fallen into a seemingly permanent funk. As an “experiment,” he proposes that he and his three closest colleagues all drink constantly throughout the day to maintain the “proper” blood-alcohol level of 0.05%. Initially, the boozing seems enormously beneficial, but as the gang pushes their experiment further, issues that have been simmering for years come to the fore and the men are faced with a choice: reckon with their behaviour or continue on the same course.

Screening at Luna Leederville, Luna On SX, Windsor Cinema and Camelot Outdoor, with dialogue in Danish, English & Italian. Tickets available here.
