Live music is back in Perth, and you can now enjoy stunning performances from some of the state’s leading classical musicians at the lavish ballroom at Government House. With Perth’s youngest Baroque ensemble HIP Company kicking things off on Sunday Aug 23, Government House Ballroom will host an array of talented musicians over the course of the next month, opening up the unique venue as part of their Restart the Arts initiative. From classical to choral, check out the upcoming concerts showcasing the best of young WA talent.

HIP Company at the Ballroom

Brand new ensemble HIP Company are bringing the best of Baroque and beyond to the ballroom. Founded by five acclaimed Perth soloists, this launch will feature music by Baroque masters such as Bach, Handel, Telemann and Clérambault, interwoven with a few surprises and favourites from other genres. If you’ve never seen a historically informed Baroque performance before, special instruments to look out for are the Baroque flute and the harpsichord, which are very unlike their modern counterparts, but fascinating and exciting to listen to. Post-concert, refreshments are supplied by Howard Park Wines, so you can pair a stunning afternoon of music with the appropriate beverage. HIP Company at the Ballroom takes place Sunday 23 August at 4:00pm, and tickets are available here.

Voyces: Trad

Local Perth choir, Voyces, are hitting the live stage for the first time this year for their concert Trad. Drawing influence from traditional music across the world, the concert includes a world premiere by Clare Maclean, commissioned by Musica Viva and supported by the newly formed WA Commissioning Circle. Voyces features some of WA’s best vocalists, who, since inception, have commissioned a number of new works, performed at festivals across Australia and performed alongside Adele, John Butler, Tim Minchin and many more. Conductor Stefan Pugliese said Trad would feature works from across Europe, Scandinavia and Asia. Trad is in concert on Sunday September 6 at 3pm. Tickets and more information are available here.

The Giovanni Consort 25th Anniversary Concert

Join WA’s professional chamber choir as they celebrate their Silver Jubilee. Since its foundation in 1995, the consort has been known for their high-quality performances of diverse choral music from the medieval to the present day. Conducted by Artistic Director Hugh Lydon, Giovanni will sing music from choral favourites such as Arvo Pärt, Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, alongside music by homegrown Perth talent, including Perry Joyce and Joshua Adams. The concert will be performed at 7:30pm on Saturday 12th September, followed by a Sunday matinee performance at 2:30pm on the 13th. Refreshments will be provided before each performance, and tickets can be found here.

WAAPA Lunchtime Concerts

WAAPA have been hosting a series of lunchtime concerts in the ballroom, of which more information about can be found here. Thanks to easing restrictions, tickets will now be available to future performances for a live audience, concurrent with the livestream. One to look out for is a performance from the WAAPA Gospel choir on September 1, for which tickets are due to be released shortly. When they are available, they can be found here:
