As if watching horror movies wasn’t terrifying enough, Perth is hosting the country’s first stand-alone VR film festival designed the make you tremble. The inaugural Fright Fest VR Festival is set to land on Palace Raine Square Cinemas from October 24 to November 2, with a ghoulish line-up for the Halloween season.
Brought to you by FrameVR and supported by the City of Perth, the Raine Square silver screen will serve up 13 nightmare sessions over two weeks, including a special Halloween viewing and late-night hide-outs in the dark.

An Australian first, audiences will get the chance to experience new VR technology by watching the films together without headphones – sitting idle as petrifying sight and sounds emerge.
Justin McArdle from the Perth-based FrameVR says, “normally with VR festivals you put on a headset and a pair of headphones, but this cocoons you from the other people in the room and is a solo isolating experience.
With dreamdeck360 we have created a communal social experience where you don’t wear headphones and will share every creak, scream and jump scare in perfect sync and surround sound with the whole audience!”
Festival highlights include the POV nightmare of 11:57, in which you are strapped in a chair in a dark cave. Perhaps the cold basement is more your style with Inside the Chamber of Horrors 1 & 2, or the tortured world of Pennywise in IT – Float VR Experience.
The special opening night will be held on October 24. Tickets are now on sale here.
