Witness a uniquely Australian piece of theatre
Envisioned as a showcase of the increasingly endangered Noongar language, Hecate is Bell Shakespeare’s ambitious reimagining of the classic tragedy Macbeth. In addition to the distinctive choice of language, the Yirra Yaakin and Perth Festival production also acts as a retelling from the perspective of Hecate, Queen of the witches, a character who is often ignored in traditional productions of Macbeth.
With only two evening shows after Valentine’s Day, this is a prime opportunity to witness a truly unique show that invites us to appreciate the beauty inherent to the Noongar language.

See a movie under the stars
Coinciding with the end of Perth’s summer outdoor cinema season, Valentine’s Day is the ideal excuse to treat your partner (or yourself) to a movie under the stars. Classic rom-coms are on offer, or if you prefer something a little different, catch ‘Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love’, a documentary outlining the intimate story of late legend Leonard Cohen and his muse Marianne Ihlen.
Our pick is the Valentine’s Day staple, ‘Ghost’, which screens at Kings Park’s Moonlight Cinema - the park’s idyllic surroundings and the cinema’s picnic-style seating may just be the perfect setting for a romantic night out. But if you and your partner would rather be in the cushioned comfort of a cinema seat with champagne in hand, Ghost is also showing in standard and Gold Glass at Event Cinemas around the city.

Savour the last of Fringe
Perth has been treated to an explosive Fringe World season for 2020, but it’s not over yet! With more than 200 events scheduled for what is also the festival’s fourth last day, options for Valentine’s entertainment are virtually limitless.
Unique date night offerings include journeying through the universe at Scitech’s Dome Date Night live show, (Not) the Bachelor Live; a miniaturised hour-long version of The Bachelor, or the Adult’s Scavenger Hunt via rickshaw around Perth city, perfect for adventure-seekers! At the very least, any Valentine’s Day spent at Fringe guarantees an experience you’re unlikely to forget.

Go Wild with Perth Zoo & AQWA
While it definitely isn’t your typical Valentine’s Day plan, Perth’s resident wildlife institutes are giving couples the chance to get up close and personal with creatures great and small at special events hosted by both AQWA and Perth Zoo this Valentine’s Day.
After the wild success of aquarium dining around the world, AQWA is bringing the experience to Perth with Valentine’s Dine Beneath the Sea. Couples are treated to a specially-prepared four course meal in AQWA’s very own marine tunnel, giving diners a rare glimpse at sharks, stingrays and exotic schools of fish in a relaxed setting (as well as after hours, adults-only aquarium access!).
Last but not least, Perth Zoo is transforming its lush gardens into a stage with Zoocoustics. Valentine’s Day will see local musicians Michael Dunstan and Jordy Maxwell take to the stage, supported by up-and-coming local folk band Wild Oak. Zoocoustics will also bring a variety of food stalls and a pop-up bar for a tranquil night of music under the night’s sky.
