The City of Rockingham’s signature outdoor sculpture exhibition returns in 2020, running from Oct 24 – Nov 1. In an incredible display of both local artistry and sustainability, all sculptures have been created by Western Australian artists using recycled materials.
The use of recycled materials seeks to highlight the importance of recycling and reducing the amount of materials that end up in landfill.

For those with disabilities, Castaways are hosting Tactile Tours of the exhibition. Running on Monday October 26 and Thursday October 29 in two one-hour sessions starting 10.15am and 11.30am, bookings are essential and can be made here. AUSLAN interpretation is available on both Thursday tours.
Beach access matting will be available for the duration of Castaways, to help people view the sculptures on the sand. This is especially good for people with disability, seniors, and parents using prams. Beach wheelchairs and beach walkers are available for people to loan free of charge. These are available on a first come, first served basis from the Information Tent at the foreshore between 9am-5pm.
Visitors will also have the chance to vote for their favourite sculptures, which will win the $500 Fremantle Ports Voter’s Prize. Art lovers are encouraged to take snaps and share them with the hashtag #CastawaysRockingham, to go into the running to win either a $100 voucher to Rustico Tapas and Wine Bar, or a $100 Ace Cinemas Rockingham voucher. Check in with Castaways for further details.
This year’s Castaways exhibition is supported by Alcoa Australia, Engie, Water Corporation, Waste Authority, Fremantle Ports, Lions Club of Rockingham and Artcom Fabrication.
Comprised of three exhibitions, visitors can wander around the Main Exhibition on the Rockingham Foreshore, the Schools Exhibition in Churchill Park and the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition located at the Rockingham Arts Centre on Kent Street, which is just a short walk from the foreshore. Art lovers will be pleased to know that all sculptures are available for purchase – so if you are in the market for some new outdoor décor, you’re in luck.
For the first time this year, Castaways will also feature a series of artist talks from guest artist Gordon Mitchell, and participating Castaways artists. All are welcome to attend, with no bookings required. You can check out the City of Rockingham’s
