Fremantle is the birthplace of some of WA and even Australia’s best known artists, including INXS, Tame Impala and the John Butler Trio. The local music scene is still thriving and many of the dive bars, cosy beer gardens and boutique bars offer live music throughout the week.

We checked out five of the best live music bars in Freo, and have shared a daily-updated gig guide below, showcasing all the best concerts coming up across Fremantle.

Noah Dillon at Mojos

Mojo’s Bar

Arguably the most well-known gig venue in Freo, Mojo’s is a staple of the North Fremantle music scene. Since the 1970’s Mojo’s has hosted an eclectic and impressive assembly of musicians, including John Butler, Tame Impala and San Cisco.

The surprisingly huge stage, full lighting rig and intimate setting create an exceptional live music experience. Don’t forget to leave a message on the Mojo’s chalkboard or pose for a pic by the unmistakable blue wall.

Mojo’s is home to incredibly diverse and eclectic artists, emerging and established bands and singers are showcased most nights of the week. With a unique old school vibe and modern edge all are welcome here to get their mojo on.

Opens from 5pm – late Wednesday to Sunday.

Located in the basement of the Norfolk Hotel in central Freo, The Aardvark is one of Perth’s best dive bars. From the moment you walk down the stairs the electric vibe and authentic sounds create a grunge atmosphere with a curious mix of comfort and hospitality. Take in the cracked brick walls and vintage band posters while you dance under the iconic disco ball or hop in the mosh pit to your favourite local bands.

The underground venue was established in 2018 and since then has quickly become one of Freo’s night life hotspots. With live gigs most Fridays and Saturdays, The Aardvark is the perfect venue to start your night off right or to finish with a night cap.

You can also enjoy some of The Aardvarks legendary Pizzas and Burgers, a great accompaniment to any live show.

Opens from 7pm – Midnight Thursday to Saturday.
