Perth’s dynamic Baroque ensemble, HIP Company, is showcasing their debut album on December 4 at 7:30pm at Claremont’s Christ Church. Following their performance at the recent Fremantle Biennale Festival, Historically Informed Performance (HIP) Company are combining tradition with innovation for the launch of their debut album, ‘Pastorales: Arias for the Open Air”.
The album combines Australian soundscapes with Baroque and folk in a musical celebration of the natural world. Performed by directors Bonnie de la Hunty, Sarah Papadopoulos, Krista Low with guest artist James Huntingford, the album features selections from George Friedrich Händel’s German Arias and James Oswald’s Airs for the Seasons alongside HIP Company’s arrangements of traditional Irish and Scottish folks songs and modern Australian works by Peter Sculthorpe and Chris Williams.
The album’s online release will be complemented by music videos filmed in rural Western Australian locations recontextualising the music in a new landscape and inviting audiences to consider how art reflects and shapes cultural identity throughout history.
Refreshments will be served once the concert concludes with wines donated by HIP Company sponsorship partner, Howard Park Wines. Tickets can be purchased here.
