Bunbury Regional Art Gallery has announced the launch of a new biennial platform, showcasing contemporary art practice in the South West. The inaugural Biennial, entitled Tracework, will run from Saturday, March 21, to Sunday, July 19, 2026, throughout BRAG, Albany Town Hall, Holmes à Court Gallery at Vasse Felix, Margaret River HeART, Southern Forest Arts and Vancouver Arts Centre.
Tracework is set to position the south western regions as both a site of artistic production and a meeting point between local and visiting practices, spanning over six partner venues and featuring works from 28 artists. The Biennial will feature installations by internationally acclaimed artists, consolidating the South West as the vibrant cultural destination it is.

Curators Dr. Michael Bianco and Dionne Hooyberg invite audiences to explore how art connects people, place and memory with the Biennial, considering Tracework as a map of the region’s creative landscape, and an intersection between local and visiting artists.
“The inaugural South West Biennial is an exciting moment for Bunbury Regional Art Gallery,” said Dr. Bianco. “The Biennial looks at how artists respond to place, history, and material — what is left behind, carried forward, or reworked over time.”
The ‘trace’ of Tracework within the exhibition is regarded as a record of encounter, reminding us that creation is never solitary, and that each gesture connects us to the people, materials and places that shape us.
The survey exhibition of regional artists is joined by solo and collaborative installations by artists Jacobus Capone, Olga Cironis, Amber Cronin and Tom Borgas, Sharyn Egan and Andy Quilty, allowing audiences the opportunity to experience contemporary practice in a regional context.
