Chris Wheeldon from RTRFM gives us the quick lowdown on the best local gigs and festivals to catch in Perth over the next few weeks.
February and March are shaping up to be big months in Perth with the gigs at Chevron Gardens in full swing. Huge highlights still to come include the supergroup that is Tropical F*&k Storm, the post-rock sounds of Mogwai (Scotland) and hip-hop duo A.B Original, before it all closes down with the beautiful, soulful vibes of Lee Fields & The Expressions.
It's also a big month for international acts in Perth, with some really cool shows from the US coming through to small local venues. Car Seat Headrest will be playing The Rosemount, you can catch Angel Olsen in solo mode at the Fremantle Arts Centre and don’t miss indie-rock band Cloud Nothings at Badlands Bar.
Local talent is alive and kicking with RTRFM’s free live music series, Harbour Sundays at the Maritime Museum, which will be running for one more weekend. The City Limits Festival is set to take over Badlands with a heap of local bands over the Labor Day Weekend, while HyperFest embraces Aussie music at their under age event on Feb 24 in Midland.
Coming up in March, Jen Cloher is touring her amazing AMP Nominated self titled album at The Rosemount and Last Quokka launch their new record ‘Dieback’ at The Bird. Make sure you catch the free and family friendly Neon Picnic at Hyde Park on March 17, where RTRFM will broadcast live all day with Felicity Groom, Almond Soy, The U-Nites and more.
