Taste Great Southern 2021, the premium foodie event for WA’s great southern region has announced its star-studded event line up.
Held from 18 – 28 March 2021 across Albany, Denmark, Mt Barker, Kojonup and Katanning, the festival is jam packed with 30 foodie events from over 20 celebrity chefs over 11 days. Known for its unique culinary experiences, Taste Great Southern (TGS) will feature a food and wine festival, a three-course charity dinner in an old-flour-mill-turned-hotel and high cheese event dedicated to raclette. Here’s a little taste of what to expect.
Nine, Wine & Dine
Arguably the most unique experience of the series, Nine, Wine & Dine is a golf-foodie hybrid event held at the picturesque Albany Golf Club. Golfers can expect nine rounds of golf, with each hole offering a wine and food pairing before you tee off. All the goodies are local, with wines from Singlefile Winery and catering from gourmet chefs Woodfired Treats. Once you’ve finished up, the clubhouse will be pumping with musical entertainment and a gourmet barbeque for all to enjoy.
Nine, Wine & Dine is on Monday, March 22 at Albany Golf Club. Tickets here.
Vendemmia Brunch
If you’ve ever wondered what the process of winemaking is like, this immersive event is for you. Following the Italian tradition of celebrating the grape harvest, this experience offers a behind the scenes tour of Castelli Estate, showing guests through their process of winemaking. After the walk-through, guests can enjoy a long table brunch and taste Castelli wines straight from the barrel.
Vendemmia Brunch is on Sunday, March 21 at Castelli Estate. Tickets here.
Albany Food & Wine Festival presented by Mt Barker Chicken
Albany Food & Wine Festival is both the biggest and closing event of TGS, pouring over 100 wines for tasting as well as over 40 culinary experiences from across the Great Southern. Featured events on the day include Wine Sessions, a wine tasting marquee with an educational flair, the Harvey Norman Cooking Stage, a live cooking demonstration from celebrity chefs Paul West and Anna Gare as well as live music from local artists. For the more indulgent foodies, the Lake House Denmark VIP Lounge will be in service, offering an exclusive retreat with a private bar and catering within the festival and including a Plumm glass and complimentary wine upon entry.
The festival is on Saturday, March 27 at Albany Agricultural Society Exhibition Pavilion. Tickets here.
Other honourable mentions include a tasting master class for the five wine subregions of the Great Southern; two free unplanned cooking demonstrations using fresh produce bought from the farmers market that day as well as a music festival. See all 30 events here.
