No Muster is complete without a nail-biting, dust raising rodeo!
The Kununurra Rodeo is only held twice a year and the Muster Rodeo is the largest in the region. It's a serious competition with big cash prizes and the chance to watch local cowboys try to ride the longest 8 seconds of their life on the spectacular saddle bronc, bull and bullock rides.
If you have never been to a rodeo, it is truly an amazing experience, full of, as they say, "Big bulls, big cash prizes, and big falls!". It's a contest of awesome skill and bravery dating back to the 1800s, attracting competitors from all over the Kimberley and Northern Territory.
It's also a wonderful glimpse into the lifestyle and characters that live in the Kimberley and many of the attendees are from the region - it's a great chance to meet and mingle with the locals, who are relaxed, having fun and generally in very good form.
It's a great day for adults and families - in addition to the bull rides, there are more than 20 events including the spectacular saddle bronc, barrel racing and so much more - there's even a barrel race and poddy ride for the kids.
Gates open 3:30pm, with the night ending at midnight. The final nail-biting event lands around 9:30pm, and then the band kicks in until the event ends.
