Whether you want to wind down after a long day, catch up with friends or party the night away, keep your drinks flowing at these charming small bars in the heart of Subiaco.
Bar Loiter at Dilly Dally
Nestled in the back of Rokeby Road restaurant Dilly Dally, Bar Loiter welcomes you to a cosy, luxury drinking experience. Whether you’re in for some vibrant cocktails to spice up your night or craving a plate or two from the Italian-inspired menu (with a bottle of your favourite wine to pair, of course) the choice is yours. The intimate bar has a great selection of indie beers and a wide selection of small-producer wines including monthly staff-picked wines – just ask one of the friendly bar staff for a recommendation. Open Tuesday to Saturday until late.
Bark
A well-known crowd pleaser, Bark sits humbly on Hay Street giving you a taste of Australian fun specialising in group activities and themed nights. Bottomless drinks, jazz nights, daily food and drink specials, and board games (including Uno if you’re brave) make Bark a fan favourite. Their drink menu is perfect for a sweet-tooth, and we recommend the Pav cocktail (with Old Young’s pavlova vodka) or the salted caramel espresso martini. Open Monday 7:30am to 1pm, Tuesday – Friday 7:30am to late, and Saturday 4pm to late.
Lums Wine Bar
Brought to you by the same owners as Bark, Lums Wine Bar is Hay Street’s most recent addition. Previously operating as the EA Lums Grocery and General Store in the 1920s, is now the inviting, modern wine bar. Embracing the friendly Subiaco culture, Lums showcases high-quality wines stretching from the Swan Valley here in Perth to the vast vineyards of Italy. Settle in at Lums and enjoy a refreshing local Pet Nat or a deeper Italian Nebbiolo, paired with their tasty offerings of share plates and nibbles. “Pouring good wines only” is Lums’ motto (and one we can definitely get behind), and they’re open until late Tuesday to Saturday.
Little Things Gin Distillery
Little Things Distillery is an unassuming gin distillery, producing some of Perth’s most delicious gins just steps from Daglish station. If you’re after something more, educate yourself and enjoy their gin masterclasses – giving you a fun lesson on the processes behind the making of your favourite spirit. With gins ranging from gentle native botanicals to their warming Navy Strength, their drops are best paired with their small plates and sharing platters. Open until 10pm from Thursday to Saturday, 8pm on Sunday, and closed Monday to Wednesday (to let the gin magic happen).
Juanita’s
Feel at home at Juanita’s Bar on Rokeby Road. This quaint spot is an old local favourite, and the perfect place to enjoy a glass of your favourite wine. With changing wine menus, Juanita’s has a great range of drinks to choose from. With a vintage-inspired decor and a pet-friendly al-fresco, Juanita’s also offers truffle parfaits and delicious grazing plates, alongside some charcuterie for sharing. Open until late all week.
Refuge Small Bar
Conveniently located by the Subiaco train station, Refuge Bar is the perfect place to add to your bar crawl list. With the cool industrial interior and a variety of trendy drinks on offer (including the delicious Pavlova Sour), Refuge is best known for their variety of craft beers which changes seasonally, and weekly specials made for sharing. Open Monday 4pm to 9pm, and Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 until late.
