The hub of any family home is the kitchen, which is why Aquila Homes made sure this North Perth home featured a standout example.
NORTH PERTH
Traditional materials were blended with the new to conjure a warm and inviting ambience in this contemporary two-storey dwelling.
The home is positioned on a 492.06sqm block, and commands attention with its striking rusted steel-look facade, which flows through to the inside entrance wall. This was formed using Painted Earth's Porters Liquid Iron and Instant Rust, which juxtapose beautifully against the grey and white rendering. A floating portico, made possible through sophisticated engineering and Ultrabond cladding, completes the modern frontage.
Aquila Homes's design manager Chris McMahon worked closely with the clients to establish a sleek, minimalistic design aesthetic for the interior.
After meeting with them, Chris was able to present a unique design for the kitchen that used a range of different products. Marri flows throughout the indoors, providing contrast to the black Quantum Quartz benchtops and stone-grey porcelain floors in the kitchen. A custom-made marri pendant light hangs above the island bench, dark knots of wood tying in with the black kitchen features.
Plywood custom shelving above the coffee counter softens the black, grey and white colour palette, and extends to the David Trubridge pendants in the hallway, and the feature stairs.
The layout of the kitchen itself had to be functional and spacious to provide the clients with ample area for preparation, cooking, cleaning and storage of specific appliances. An island bench is the main anchoring point, and features a three-sided stone plinth warp at one end to connect the expansive benchtop to the ground.
On the opposite end, a structural plate is integrated into the Character Cabinets cabinetry, allowing the benchtops to float over the lower cabinet and create a lighter, more ethereal detail for greater visual impact. The integration of the steel plate was required to provide the engineered stone top with additional support. The underside of the stone was recessed to ensure the plate did not protrude outside of the material's depth.
The modern feel of the kitchen is continued through the home in the bedrooms and ensuite.
