Saunas are awesome at any time, especially in winter after a bracing swim or surf, relaxing with up to six of your friends in a warm sauna is total luxury
The beauty of Kaarna Sauna is rather than you have to go to the sauna, the sauna comes to you. The only of its kind in the region, Kaarna Sauna is a portable sauna built into an old horse float, meaning it can be carted around just about anywhere. Perfect for a couple’s getaway, a birthday party, a method of post-surf therapy or a way to unwind after a busy week, this Finnish wood-fired sauna is bound to have you coming back for more. Owners Flo and Mikku finished building the mobile sauna in 2019, after being inspired by the sauna culture they encountered in Finland.“My Finnish partner and I moved to Margaret River 3 and a half ago. The winters here get quite rainy and dark and so the need for a sauna came up naturally. We have been to Finland many times and loved the sauna culture - the health, social and cleaning aspects of it.”Popular in Nordic and Scandinavian countries, saunas are known to relieve emotional stress, help release endorphins, aid in the sweating out of toxins and soothe aches and pains in muscles and joints.
“Once built we started seeing a lot of interest for it. That’s when the idea of a brand began. The Margaret River Pro hired it for a month, and it was a great first experience.”Kaarna Sauna can seat up to seven people, but it is the most comfortable with four. The inside is made from beautifully scented pine and cedar, which smells amazing when heated up. It comes already set up when you book, with firewood, kindling, fire starters, and even water if you are in a remote location. The sauna can be dropped to you at your desired location, whether that is your house, farmstay, event site or even your favourite surf break.
