Margaret River is filled with bike trails traversing the region’s karri forests, bushland and coastline and is popular with cyclists all year round. While there is an abundance of bike hire available, bike tours provide a more personalised experience, know all the best spots and will save you getting lost, which apparently happens more than you would think. Here are three of the best in Margaret River.
Margaret River Mountain Bike Tours
For a unique experience of the region’s most beautiful scenery, Margaret River Mountain Bike Tours offer a range of bike tours using quality, high-end bikes and equipment. Locally owned and operated by long-term mountain biker Michael and his partner Diane, MRMBT have been running family-oriented tours for the last 3.5 years. Operating in groups of no more than 6 people, the tours are ideal for those seeking a more personal and private biking experience. Plus, no need to worry about travel as MRMBT will pick up from any location.
For families, the best choice is the ‘Family Half-Day tour’, which involves a cycle through the Boranup Forest. Alternatively, the ‘Hike & Bike’ option involves a guided walk with a quick stop for lunch, followed by a forest mountain bike ride.
For craft beer lovers, there is even an option for you! MRMBT offer a ‘Trails to Ales’ tour where locally brewed craft beer meets mountain biking. Ride in the morning, hand over your bikes at noon and finish the day on a bus to some of the region’s finest breweries.

Margaret River Adventure Company
Margaret River Adventure Co. is the original fat bike company of the region. Pioneered by owner Cam after he saw a video of people racing through the snow in Alaska, Cam says they are now the only operator in Australia to have the unique ‘fat bikes’, a mountain bike with over-sized tyres, three times the width of a regular mountain bike’s tyre.
Fat bikes are especially effective on sand and in winter when the tracks are full of bog holes and are ideal for handling the rougher terrain.
Their tours are guided along set trails with commentary provided on the forest as you go. You’ll learn about the types of trees, as well as about the incredible divergence zone (a space where the Karri trees end and the landscape becomes coastal). Plus, the company even has special permission from the Department of Parks and Wildlife to ride bikes in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.
For the ultimate biking experience choose the ‘Sunset Ride’, a ride through the forest to the coast. Finish the ride with a glass of wine or beer in hand and a view of the picturesque coastal cliffs in sight.
