Fremantle

A trip to Fremantle always feels like a trip to a different city. Known for its maritime history, it’s one of the few parts of Perth where so many historical building have been so beautifully preserved and the pace and people feel quite different. Take a chance to walk the city and take in Fremantle Prison, which housed convicts from the 1850s to 1991, the Round House built in 1831 and the various museums. Mandurah & Peel

An hour’s drive south of Perth, the darling scarp melts into the Indian Ocean. Inland Peel is a hotbed of mountain biking, bush-walking, kayaking, abseiling, white-water rafting, horse-riding and camping activities all year round. Rockingham

Just south of Perth, Rockingham is a gateway to Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, Penguin Island, Garden Island and Seal Island. There, you can swim with dolphins, take a kayaking tour, go snorkelling and skydive onto the beach. The foreshore is stunning with plenty of places to eat and a lovely mix of locals and day trippers.
