The land of the classic country tearoom and boutique food & wine production
This is the land of the classic country tearoom, where scones, jam and cream, and the ploughman’s lunch are the stars. Cafes and bistros feature Mediterranean and French fare made from premium seasonal produce, and artisans abound, from boutique beer and cider breweries, to cheese makers and fruit wineries. There’s a plethora of vineyards with in excess of 450ha planted and more than 15 wineries in the region but less than 10 cellar doors open to the public, but they are worth visiting. The region’s Mediterranean climate cultivates ripened fruit, which means there are perfect grapes for award-winning wine, especially riesling and cabernet sauvignon. Luscious forests, quaint country scenes, and, of course, the Blackwood River are the perfect surroundings while you sip your way through a relaxing holiday. Other food & drink highlights include Blackwood Winery, Cambray Sheep Cheese & Cottages, The Cidery and Blackwood Valley Brewing Company, Sunnyhurst Winery, FreJac Bakery and Patisserie, Birdwood Park Fruit Winery, Mushroom Cafe and Bakery, and Wattle Ridge Winery. Don’t miss the local producers manning their stalls at August’s Taste ofthe Blackwood Festival; and you can meet winemakers at the Blackwood Valley & WA Boutique Wine Show in October.Eating & drinking in Blackwood River Valley
