Western Australia’s most trusted resource for trail information has just announced that a third town has been accredited as an official Trail Town.

Trails WA is a not-for-profit which focuses on connecting travellers and locals to the state’s trail experiences and has handed down its third stamp of approval, naming Nannup an official Trail Town. Nannup has joined Trail Towns Collie and Dwellingup.

The Trail Town program aims to highlight towns that demonstrate strong connections between their trails, community, local business and visitor economy. Trails WA considered everything from trail infrastructure and maintenance to visitor information and marketing, with the overall visitor experience at the heart of their assessments.

Set amongst the South West forests, Nannup offers a renowned mountain biking culture with a distinctive mix of terrain and purpose-built trails.

Trails WA Chairperson Suzanne Hillier remarked on what the addition means for the wider Trail Town network. “Nannup has particularly strong cycling identity, from gravel and endurance riding through to mountain biking and downhill experiences,” said Hillier. “With Nannup joining Collie and Dwellingup, we now have a genuine network of Trail Town destinations in Western Australia, each offering something quite different.”

Nannup’s accreditation both builds on its established reputation as a cycling destination and creates new opportunities for travellers looking for outdoor activities in regional WA.

“Visitors can choose a Trail Town that suits the experience they’re looking for, or link several together and build a whole trip around exploring WA’s trails,” Hillier explained. “We’d love people to start thinking about WA’s Trail Towns when they’re planning their next getaway.”
