Part enchanted forest, part candy kingdom and part psychedelic daydream, internationally celebrated artist Pip & Pop brings Double Magic to Perth.
Exhibiting from Friday, December 18, to Sunday, May 9 and created by Perth artist Tanya Schulz (working as Pip & Pop), Double Magic transforms AGWA into a parallel universe of colour, sugar and wonder.
At the centre of this extraordinary world is a cat-shaped cave, where visitors can venture inside, explore the colour, hidden details and fantastical forms throughout the landscape. Tiny treasures and handcrafted elements also feature – some being made from real sugar.

“Double Magic draws on stories of fictional geographies, edible fantasy lands and caves that lead to other worlds. I’m interested in paradise mythologies where everything is abundant and enticing, inanimate objects might come to life; places where we can escape our earthly realities,” said Tanya Schultz.
“For me, it’s about optimism and wish fulfillment and our very human desire to imagine somewhere better, while leaving open the possibility that things aren’t always quite what they seem.”
Pip & Pop is known worldwide for her installations that utilise everyday materials including candy, modelling clay, pigments, beads, crystals and artificial flowers, creating immersive environments that blur the lines between fantasy and reality. Drawing inspiration from folk tales and imaginary worlds, Pip & Pop creates places that feel joyfully excessive, wonderful and strange.
The exhibition follows a period of international success for the Perth-born artist, whose work appeared at London’s Kew Gardens, Japan’s Aichi Triennale, the Sharjah Museum of Art, Taiwan’s Kuandu Biennale, and galleries and museums across the world.
Double Magic exhibits from Friday, December 18, to Sunday, May 9. Entry is free.
