The Alliance Française French Film Festival, the largest celebration of French film outside of France, opens this week on Thursday, March 12, with screenings across Palace Raine Square, Luna Leederville, Windsor Cinema and Luna on SX.
Scheduled for opening night is a screening of Cédric Klapisch’s acclaimed La Venue L’Avenir (Colours of Time), a dual-timeline drama following the lives of cousins who inherit an old house in rural Normandy and retrace the steps of their ancestors to 19th century Paris.
Closing night sees a screening of the Grand Prix and Audience Award at the Festival International du Film de Comédie de l’Alpe d’Huez, Avignon (Rodrigue In Love), a love letter to theatre, lives, and summer romance.

Adaptations, star power and contemporary French storytelling star throughout the program. Highlights include L’Étranger (The Stranger), an adaptation of the seminal Albert Camus novel, and Jean Valjean, a new interpretation of Les Misérables.
Angelina Jolie’s high-stakes Paris Fashion Week drama Coutures (Couture) and gripping sci-fi thriller Chien 51 (Dog 51) bring the intensity, while comedy and romance highlights are found in Fils De (The Son Of), a fierce political satire, and C’est Quoi L’amour? (What Is Love?).

2026 César Award winners show out, including Best Actress winner Léa Drucker in Dossier 137 (Case 137), Best Actor winner Laurent Lafitte for La Femme La Plus Riche Du Monde (The Richest Woman In The World), and Pierre Lottin, Best Supporting Actor for The Stranger.
Additional winners include visually stunning L’Inconnu De La Grande Arche (The Great Arch), animated film Arco, and rising star Nadia Melliti (Best Female Acting Hope) in La Petite Dernière (The Little Sister).

Alliance Française de Perth General Manager Alexandre Allais said: “As we count down to Opening Night, we are thrilled to bring the very best of French cinema to Perth.”
Part of this plan includes special events, including a Ladies Night, a classic movie presentation, family sessions, and the popular Cinewine, pairing French cinema with French wine.
