What better way to enjoy warm Perth summer afternoons than with a drink in hand and a view of the ocean. Perth is home to a number of coastal bars offering everything from award-winning tequila to summer sunset sessions and Pinot coupled with fresh oysters. See our definitive guide to Perth’s coastal bars below.

Bathers Beach House, Fremantle

Nestled on the shores of Fremantle’s Bathers Beach, Bathers Beach House is Perth’s only licensed bar and restaurant situated right on the sand. Book a spot in the beach lounge and recline on a lounge chair with your feet in the sand and drink in hand, or if you’re with a group of friends, beach tables can be booked for up to six people.  The extensive drinks menu features a range of cocktails including specialty ‘bathers cocktails’ alongside classic favourites such as the Mojito and Negroni. If you’re feeling especially summery give their Sangria Carafe a try. The Beach House is currently running a series of summer sunset sessions every Sunday from 3pm. Enjoy live music, the Sunday ‘cocktail of the week’ and guest craft beer on tap.  The whole venue is open but if you are set on relaxing at the beach lounge be sure to book ahead.

Bathers Beach House is open daily from 11am – 12am and 11am – 9pm on Sundays. Bookings can be made here.

El Grotto, Scarborough

If tequila is your drink of choice then El Grotto should be your next coastal bar stop. In fact, the bar won the award for Australian Tequila Bar of the Year in 2018 at the Australian Bar Awards. Their extensive award-winning tequila menu is coupled with Mexican street food plus live music. Add in the killer Scarborough beach views and you are guaranteed to have a good night.

Check out their Facebook for a lineup of music artists playing each night. El Grotto is open Monday’s from 4pm till late and from 11am every other day.

Running with Thieves, South Fremantle

Positioned over the road from South Beach, Running with Thieves is a cool and casual brewery with a contemporary yet relaxed feel that reflects the nature of South Fremantle. The brewery produces an evolving range of beer, gin, vodka, whiskey and rum constantly working to try new things and push creative boundaries. The food is great for sharing with menu items inspired by the idea that one should be able to hold food in one hand and a drink in the other. What really makes Running with Thieves worth visiting, however, is their craft beer which is designed to be well-balanced and is intended for easy drinking.

The brewery and bottleshop are open 11am – till late on Friday and Saturday and 11am – 9pm every other day of the week.

Island Market Trigg

Easy breezy coastal drinks and dining is what you’ll find at Scarborough’s Island Market Trigg. The menu is heavily influenced by Middle Eastern flavours and is great for sharing. Dine a-la-carte or try the chef-prepared tasting menu for two which features five courses of Middle Eastern delights. The wine menu is extensive and a variety of cocktails featuring locally brewed spirits are also available.

Island Market Trigg is open 7 days a week from 8am till late, book online here.
