Set to breathe new life into Beaufort Street, a major redevelopment project led by the team behind The Old Synagogue will see the vacant Empire building transformed into a multi-level hospitality venue.
521 - 525 Beaufort Street will soon be home to three unique, interconnected venues with different areas to explore, including a multi-level restaurant, a sprawling gastro-pub with a beer garden and roof decks, and a late-night speakeasy.
Incredible artist impressions reveal the new layout and design of the building, which is sure to become a major social hub within the heart of Mt Lawley.
In the mid 1950s, the building was occupied by the Turvey Brothers, who used the warehouse to design and manufacture bespoke furniture. The site was last occupied by furniture retailer Empire, who operated on the site for 12 years before finally closing in 2019.
The new concept and redevelopment is the latest project from the award-winning team who brought us The Old Synagogue. No strangers to reviving historic, unused venues, The Old Synagogue opened in 2019 after sitting empty for 20 years and has gone on to win the Australian Hotels Association Awards for Best New Venue and Best Venue in 2020.
Ross Drennan, from The Old Synagogue, emphasised that it was an incredible opportunity to turn the old industrial site into something Beaufort Street really needs in light of the multiple bar and restaurant closures of recent years. The design maintains much of the character and history of the building, giving it a modern architectural update that makes use of the space.
With the Flying Scotsman set to reopen after undergoing renovations by Three Pound Group, and the recent re-opening of Clarence's Company Store, 2021 is looking up for the Beaufort Street strip!
