Only half an hour east of the city, the Perth Hills are lush with fruit trees and produce plantations. Depending on the season, apples, avocados, nectarines, strawberries and a variety of citrus fruits are all ripe for the picking. Prefer to buy fresh and support local? Head over to these picturesque family-friendly orchards and growers to pick your own fruit and vegetables for a wholesome weekend or afternoon activity.

S&R Orchard

S&R Orchard


Located in Walliston, this orchard’s involvement with the local community sets them apart from other farms across the state. Twice a year, S&R Orchard hosts seasonal events, including their famous Blossom Festival in September, during which time the orchard is covered in stunning pink cherry blossoms. The Summer Fruits Festival is held from December to March, where fruits such as plums and nectarines are available to pick at your own pace. Both festivals offer an array of stalls and live entertainment, fit for the whole family.

Waterwheel Persimmon Orchard


Open from April to June, this orchard offers fruit picking for their speciality, Sweet Fuyu persimmons, with no entrance fee. With friendly and accommodating staff, Waterwheel Persimmon is the perfect place for a wholesome day of fruit-picking with the family, and it’s only an hour drive south-east from Perth!

Well known for their cherries that are in season for a short time from November to December, Carmel Cherry Farm is just over 30mins from Perth. If cherries aren’t your cup of tea, they also farm lychees, mangoes, loquats and avocados. Open only on weekends, bookings are essential, so book your spot here. Home to a huge range of fruit and vegetable, The Fruit Corner has been family owned and operated since 1953, based in Pickering Brook just a 45 minute drive from Perth. At any given time throughout the year, there are oranges, mandarins, apples and pears are available for picking. They also grow vegetables including pumpkins, capsicums, avocados, corn, carrots and potatoes. And, if that’s not enough, they even have essential seasonings, lemons, limes, onions, spring onions, as well as free range eggs and honey. Try their apple pies in April for a special treat!
