2023 brought many new arrivals to the food and drink scene in Perth, from cosy wine bars to world-famous gelato. We’ve rounded up the eight new spots you won’t want to miss on your next night out.
The Station – South Perth
The Station is one of two new venues in a in a heritage-listed building in South Perth.
Opened in December and serving modern pub food in an airy location, The Station offers plates for sharing as well as dedicated mains. Try the panko-crusted pork cutlet or indulge in kingfish crudo with finger lime, chili, and caviar. With a bar serving a full range of specialty and classic cocktails, as well as the pub draught classics you know and love, The Station welcomes walk-ins for a drink, lunch or dinner, seven days a week.
Ludo – South Perth
If The Station’s pub fare wasn’t enough, tucked away on the lower floor of the same building is fine-dining establishment Ludo. Chef Ludovic Mulot brings his expertise to a seasonal menu, perfect for sharing. Current selections include a lobster éclair and braised lamb shoulder cigars. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just looking to experience some of the best Perth has to offer in a beautiful location, Ludo is sure to impress.
Ludo is open Friday to Sunday for lunch and all week long for dinner.
Lola’s – Fremantle
From the team that brought you Peggy’s, the latest addition to Fremantle’s Market Street is Lola’s. With a focus on pizza and wine, dishes are served family-style and are perfect for sharing. Try elevated classics like their pepperoni pizza with garlic honey or their specialty options like the confit potato pizza with caramelised onion, pancetta, and candied rosemary. There is also a rotating selection of seasonal sides to complement the mains.
Lola’s is open from 5pm until 9pm every day, excluding Tuesdays.
Bottega Deli – Claremont
Brought to you by sisters Annabella and Victoria La Pegna and their father, the owner of Bellissimo Restaurant, this really is a family affair. The options at their takeaway counter make use of fresh ingredients in a variety of traditional Italian ways from salads to tortas and pastas alongside their classic sandwiches. Alternatively, you can brighten up your working week with a coffee and their Tuesday tiramisù. They also carry a range of imported Italian products, including San Marzano tomatoes and olive oil that’s so special, you’ll need tasting notes.
Bottega Deli is open from 7.30am, Monday to Saturday.
Molly’s – Mt Lawley
If you are Irish, or know anyone in Perth who is, you may have heard the siren call of Molly’s coming from Beaufort Street. Serving authentic Irish staples such as their Beef & Guinness Pie alongside pub classics like schnitzel, this is the perfect Australian-Irish fusion for expats and locals alike. Don’t miss their chip shop classics like curry chips, and the Irish institution that is the spice bag. With a kid’s menu, live music on weekends, and specialty cocktails there really is something for everyone.
Molly’s is open every day from 11am til late.
Messina Gelato – Mt Lawley
After opening in November, Messina still has queues out the door and around the block. The specialty gelato franchise that has taken the east coast by storm has finally landed in Perth, bringing a selection of 35 beloved flavours along with 5 weekly specials. Escape the evening rush and visit during the day, or finish your night out on Beaufort Street with a sweet treat, as Messina is open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Messina is open from 12pm until late seven days a week.
Vin Populi – Fremantle
Opened in the earlier half of 2023, Vin Populi brings a curated section of Italian dishes to Fremantle. Their blackboard menu changes regularly to reflect their specialty pastas, like squid-ink linguine and a delicious tagliatelle osso buco. Gluten-free and vegan pasta is available on request. Complement your dining experience with their selection of local WA wines, or opt for a bottle straight from Italy for a unique and authentic experience.
Vin Populi is open from 4pm Monday to Thursday and from 12pm at the weekend. Walk-ins are welcome.
Bertie – Bassendean
Settle in for a long lunch or take your pick from the a la carte menu at Bassendean’s newest wine bar, Bertie. With a loosely British-inspired menu, Bertie serves their take on classics like white wine mussels and the humble Scotch egg. Beyond wine, their drinks menu features specially crafted cocktails, including a Bertie Spritz for those who want a change from the classic Aperol. Their house-made ice cream sandwiches are a must-try – their latest decadent creation is sticky date flavoured.
Bertie is open Wednesday to Sunday for dinner and serves lunch during the weekend.
